Do customers notice your site?

Do you want customers to notice your site?  This is an important question to consider.  It all depends on the site you want to make.  If you are using your site to sell a product, do you want the customer to notice the site or the product?  If you are offering a service, tell the story of what makes your service better than the competitions.  People are always wanting something, so give them what they want.
